S CG has opened registration for “SCG International Internship Program 2016,” offering students from Myanmar and other ASEAN countries coveted spots as team members at SCG Thailand for the summer. In its third year, this program allows students to gain professional knowledge and learn business and technical skills in an international work environment, in order to prepare themselves in advance of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). SCG is committed to providing opportunities that will educate Myanmar and ASEAN youth, who are vital to the growth of the region.
Students who participate in the program will not only improve their work capabilities and understanding of participating in a cross-cultural environment, they will also learn about SCG’s business philosophy, corporate governance and sustainable development, which has led SCG to achieve its business sustainability over the past 100 years. The 2016 Program will host 40 selected interns from five ASEAN countries for a onemonth internship in Bangkok, Thailand. Seven students will be selected from Myanmar.
Mr. Chana Poomee, Country Director of SCG in Myanmar said “It is imperative that we focus on creating a talent pool for SCG’s future business expansion, as a result of the coming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). During the internship application process, we look for candidates that are energetic and willing to learn”. We have seen our interns move forward and forge successful careers; we are excited to offer development opportunities for Myanmar’s youth,” he added.
The program is open to Myanmar thirdyear to fifth-year university students and students pursuing a Master’s degree with a major in or related to : (a) Engineering: Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation and Control, Chemical or Industrial Engineering (b) Business: Business Administration, Economics or Marketing or (c) Law.
“The Internship Program was definitely worthwhile for an international and professional work experience. It provided me the opportunity to learn skills other than what is taught in the classroom,” said Kaung Myat Ahkar, 3rd year law student from Dagon University and SCG Internship participant in 2015. “Over the course of the month, I was able to see first-hand how a company working to global standards operates, and received valuable advice from my mentor”.
Students will have the opportunity to learn soft skills, such as presentation and teamwork through specialised training and practical projects. Participants are paired with a senior mentor from SCG, who provides advice and guide, as well as give one-to-one support. The nature of the program allows students to engage with professionals and other participants with diverse background from across ASEAN.
